How To Measure

Measuring For Curtains

To measure for curtains you need to do the following:

  • Decide what type of heading you would like, pencil pleat, tap tops or eyelet
  • If you have decided upon pencil pleat, choose whether to hang them from a track or a pole
  • Decide how long you would like the curtains, ie to the floor, to just above the radiator or just below the sill and measure accordingly.
  • If the track or pole is fitted, for tab top or eyelets, measure from the top of the pole to where you want the curtains to finish, or for pencil pleat measure from the bottom of the ring that will hang on the pole.  If you have a track, measure from the top of the track.  If the track or pole is not fitted, measure from where you intend to fit it.
  • Measure the width of the track or the pole.

Measuring For Roman Blinds

Roman blinds provide a smart, tailored window dressing which can sit inside or outside the window recess.

Ideal for bathrooms or kitchens, they can also be used in conservatories, or sit inside the window recess to allow you to use ‘dress curtains’ that can be tied back and not drawn.

When measuring, decide whether you want the blind to sit inside with window recess, close to the glass, or outside, in which case it will need to be slightly wider and longer than the recess itself.

All our blinds are individually made to your exact specifications, are hand sewn, and no unsightly stitching is visible when the blind is lowered.  We use the traditional method of a wooden batten to which the blind is attached by Velcro, and the blind cords wrap around a cleat.

Our blinds are fully lined with a high quality cream cotton sateen lining, or if you prefer we can use black out lining.  If you have chosen a silk fabric, you might want to consider having the blind interlined to provide bulk and ensure that the blind hangs beautifully.

If fitting inside the recess, the baton can be attached to the window frame itself, or if you have a new house with ‘trickle vents’ at the top of the frame, you would need attach it to the top of the window surround, and bring it forward slightly so that it doesn’t interfere with the vent.  This is particularly important if you have a top opener on your window, as the handles protrude and can become caught in the cords when the blind is raised or lowered.  Simply state your preference when ordering and we will ensure that the holes to accept the screws are in the appropriate place.  The blind needs to cover the whole of the window, including the frame or glass so please bear this in mind when measuring.

If you intend to hang the blind outside the recess, once again please let us know, and provide your window sizes and we will ensure that it made to the correct size.

Our blinds are provided with all the fittings you need to hang them, you will simply need a screwdriver and a drill, and of course all instructions are included.

If you have any questions at all, please ask.
